Understand the structure
A roadmap is a content plan with its own start date and posting cadence. Pillars group broad themes. Clusters organise related topics beneath a pillar. Individual articles sit within that structure.
For example, a training business might create a roadmap for new customers, a pillar for choosing a course and clusters for experience levels or course formats. The structure should reflect meaningful reader needs rather than arbitrary labels.
Build the plan
- Select the website and open Quill’s roadmap area.
- Create or open a roadmap.
- Set its goal, audience and schedule.
- Add or review pillars and clusters.
- Create article briefs within the relevant topic.
- Review the calendar and the relationship between articles.
Where you have strategy management permission, the article brief can create a new roadmap, pillar or cluster from its selectors. Each selector follows the selected parent, which helps avoid assigning an article to an unrelated topic.
Use research sensibly
Strategy research can reuse permitted saved keyword measurements and competitor notes. Unmeasured phrases can guide discovery, but they should not be treated as measured search-volume evidence.
Review the proposed tree and briefs before accepting the plan. Check for overlapping topics, unsupported product assumptions and articles that target the same intent without a useful distinction.
Maintain the plan
A roadmap can extend as content is added. Inspect resulting dates after imports or changes to cadence. Planning farther ahead does not mean all articles can immediately be generated; package generation windows and preparation rules still apply.
Deleting a populated roadmap requires reviewing the effect on its articles and linked campaigns. Use the provided transfer or confirmation workflow. Removing a planning container is not a request to unpublish existing remote content.
